Thank you again to Tripp Auction! My husband spotted this Forslund letter holder this afternoon.

I have a Rip Van Lee chair with a label on it that states that it was hand tailored for Carl Forslund--- is this how all the labels were made? Or was this chair specifically made for Mr. Forslund? Any infor would be much appreciated. Thanks

Just flipped our Rip upsidedown to check. The label reads: Hand tailored for _____________- by ______________. Both the customer and upholster's names were likely handwritten in. If Carl Forslund is hand written, you might have a chair that was made for CF himself. Don't believe this would give it any added monetary value, but it would likely be something very special to those in the Forslund family!

I just ran across this blog. I’m not sure if there’s a way to make a new topic so I’ll just comment under this one. First, we have that very same letter holder as well as other gifts and many catalogues. Carl and Jon Forslund are good friends of ours. Jon once introduced me to Blake at a Rotary meeting. Jon has been hunting with us for 20 years or more and more recently Carl started to do some hunting here. They always went up north for opening day but as they’re getting older they don’t make the journey any longer. Carl started to shake too badly to hold a gun about 4 years ago and had to give it up. Below is a story about how I helped him hunt again this year and the lower link is to Michigan Out Of Doors from last week when they had Carl and I on the show. Thanks for your blog and I hope you enjoy this information.

Pete, thanks for sharing! Blake is my grandfather. I think what you did to help Uncle Carl hold a gun is pretty remarkable. So glad you found the blog and have a nice connection to the family. Warmest regards! -Emily

Hello Emily,
I'm not sure if anyone is still monitoring this blog, but i will give it a try. My grand parents owned a business in GR during the 40's, 50's, 60's and during this time they purchased several pieces made by CF. Most of the pieces were purchased during the 50's. Some of the items can be found in the 1957 and 1959 catalogs, however, I can't find a few of the larger pieces anywhere. They are all marked as being made by CF, but i can't find any info on them and my grand parents passed away years ago so i can't ask them for any additional info. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? Some of the pieces are listed below. All of the CF items have been passed down to me and all items are in good condition.

-Blue Rip Van Lee chair and foot stool.
-Three carved cats found in the 59 catalog.
-A complete bedroom set.
-A large hutch.

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Anthony

Hello! I am in Oregon. My parents purchased quite a few items of furniture from Forslunds in the 1980's. (My Dad grew up in Grand Rapids and always loved the town.) Anyway, I am now downsizing, and looking to sell a few of the larger pieces my parents had.

Is there any interest from folks on this site for

Rip Van Lee chair and stool in british tan
Southern Belle Rocker in forest green

I can send pix, all pieces are in great shape, despite being loved and use. My parents were very careful people!

Let me know through email. Thanks,
Sandy Adams
